The Short and Quick on Diagnosing Protein and Moisture in Your Strands

Your hair is dry, tangly, dull, lifeless, and you don’t know which way to go – protein or moisture? Here’s the short and quick:

  1. Get a clarifying shampoo. Unfortunately, you’ll have to skip the sulfate-free shampoo for this one – you’ve got a serious problem, and you need to get this diagnosed!
  2. Wash your hair once or more to get out any product buildup or silicones. Then throw the clarifier in the trash with a promise to yourself never to use a silicone-containing product again!
  3. After the clarifier, your hair will feel like dry straw, but absolutely do not condition (yet)!
  4. Air dry.

The Diagnosis

  • You need tons of moisture if: your hair seems “bunched up”, crunchy dry, brittle, snappy and you couldn’t run a wide tooth comb through it to save your life, Your hair likely has too much protein, and in desperate need of moisture.
  • You need more protein if: your hair seems fragile and mushy.
  • You hair is fine and you likely had product buildup if: it feels and looks good (smooth, shiny).

Now go condition those strands!
